MASTERPLAN Singer: BEYOND TWILIGHT Leader Used My Ideas Without Permission

September 1, 2005

Rockdetector.com recently conducted an exclusive interview with MASTERPLAN/ex-BEYOND TWILIGHT vocalist Jorn Lande. When asked about his recent war of words in the press regarding his allegedly uncredited contributions to BEYOND TWILIGHT's the group's latest album, "Section X" (which features Lande's replacement, Kelly Carpenter, also of OUTWORLD),Lande said, "Finn Zierler [BEYOND TWILIGHT leader] should be careful calling other people liars. The reason I never continued working with him after 'The Devil's Hall of Fame' was that before the release and without warning he sent out a promo CD to the press where he explained the concept and took credit for the whole album. I guess at that time I should have given him hell through the media, just like he does now, but I chose to let it go.

"All the lyrics and melodies on 'The Devil's Hall of Fame' are very personal to me and reflect my life at that time. Finn Zierler even made up and published stories about where he supposedly went to get inspiration to make the album. I guess he 'forgot' to specify that he only composed the music, and that the lyrics and melodies were all mine. I should have demanded an apologizing statement from him then, like the one he wants from me now.

"I am not apologizing for claiming credit for my work, it's my trademark and I have worked hard for it my whole life.

"Finn Zierler has, without my permission, used some of my work on the new BEYOND TWILIGHT album, 'Section X'. These ideas were made during the 'Devil's Hall of Fame' sessions, and was considered unfinished 'leftovers' after the songwriting was over.

"I am, of course, not claiming to have written any of the musical compositions on 'Section X', but I was surely surprised and stunned when I discovered that several of my vocal melodies and lyrical ideas appeared on the album.

"The ongoing farce on the Internet has reached ridiculous proportions, I can see that someone has worked very hard to keep this dispute on the headlines.....

"When I was interviewed by Mario's Metal Mania about the new BEYOND TWILIGHT album, I had just recently heard the songs and I was extremely provoked and angry at the time. This has probably led to the core of the misunderstanding. If I have expressed myself unclear or been misunderstood in any way, I hope this will set the record straight and shed some light on the situation.

"Most people in this business know that I am a creative and productive artist without needing to take credit for other people's work to get publicity. I also don't think that these musical 'leftovers' are worth the trouble, I have moved on many times since then. However, this doesn't change the fact that Finn Zierler went behind my back and used them without my permission. That is disrespect. I am not demanding or expecting anything from Finn Zierler, except for honesty."
